Radiology

Enjoy the convenience of comprehensive diagnostic imaging close to home, in one location.

The St. Anthony Hospital, Department of Radiology blends state-of-the-art imaging in a personalized and healing environment for our patients. St. Anthony has continually invested in the best diagnostic imaging technology to insure that we provide the people we serve a cutting-edge diagnostic advantage.

From simple fractures to complex procedures, our patients enjoy the convenience of having comprehensive diagnostic imaging available close to home, in one location, with only one place to go when multiple tests are needed.

St. Anthony also provides the benefit of having a board-certified radiologist on our staff. That means that tests are interpreted in a timely manner and results are reported to your physician as soon as possible.

For non-emergency imaging services, patients can schedule their exams with an order from their physician. For patients who have an unplanned or emergency need for imaging, our staff of radiology professionals are available 24 hours a day for x-ray and CT scans, seven days a week.

Imaging Services

General Radiography
Mammography
Ultrasound (sonography)
Nuclear Medicine
CT (Computed Tomography)
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
PET/CT

General Radiography (X-ray)

  • Used for outpatient and inpatients, trauma and surgery services.
  • Services also include digital fluoroscopy used for procedures such as gastrointestinal studies and joint studies.

Types of Exams:

  • General x-rays
  • Barium enema
  • Upper GI
  • Small bowel
  • Esophagram
  • Video swallow
  • Hysterosalpingogram
  • Arthrogram
  • Hip injection
  • Voiding cystourethrogram

Mammography

An x-ray examination of the breast used for screening and diagnosis of breast tissue. 3D mammography technology which converts digital images into a stack of thin layers to allow Radiologist to see finer detail through layers.

  • 3D Mammograms are recommended for all women, especially those with dense breast tissue.

Types of Exams:

  • Screening mammograms
  • Diagnostic mammograms
  • Needle localizations

Accreditation Frequently Asked Questions

Ultrasound (sonography)

Uses sound waves to produce diagnostic images and data to assist healthcare professionals in the management and treatment of patients. Ultrasound is used to evaluate many of the body's internal organs, including but not limited to:

Types of Exams:

  • Abdomen
  • Pelvic
  • OB
  • Vascular

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear tests require the use of short-lived radioactive isotopes to evaluate organ function or aid in oncology diagnosis.

Types of Exams offered and special services:

  • HIDA
  • Bone Scans
  • MUGA
  • Renograms
  • V/Q Scans
  • Parathyroid Scans
  • Thyroid Uptake and Scan
  • Gastric Emptying
  • GI Bleed
  • Sentinel Node Localization

CT (Computed Tomography)

Also known as CAT scan, this technique uses a computer to assemble multiple x-ray images of soft tissues or bone in a two-dimensional, cross-section image. Three dimensional computerized reconstruction is also available.

Types of Exams:

  • Head
  • Chest
  • Abdomen and pelvis
  • Lung Screening
  • Angiography

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Uses a strong magnetic field and radio frequency to acquire high resolution imaging in many areas of the body. It produces images in cross sections, or slices, like CT but without ionizing radiation.

  • Current scanner is the Siemens Espree 1.5T system which offers an extra wide design to make scanning more comfortable for broader built patients. The St. Anthony MRI scanner is the the shortest bore size available, reducing anxiety for claustrophobic patients due to having less distance from their head to the outside of the machine.
  • Able to scan MRI compatible pacemakers when specific criteria are met through cooperation with the cardiologist.

Types of Exams:

  • Brain and spine
  • Joints (more detailed than x-ray as the soft tissue such as muscle, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments are well seen)
  • Abdomen and pelvis
  • MRA (magnetic resonance angiography)
  • Arthrography

PET/CT

PET/CT combines the functional information from a Positron Emission Tomograpy (PET) exam with anatomical information from a Computed Tomography (CT) exam in one single exam. A PET scan detects changes in cellular funtion-specifically, how your cells are utilizing nutrients like sugar and oxygen. Since these functional changes take place before physical changes occur, PET can provide information that enables your physician to make an early diagnosis. PET scans are performed once each week on Fridays.

Types of Exams:

  • Skull base - Mid Thigh
  • Whole Body

Additional services offered by the radiology department include invasive radiology, and surgical radiography with fluoroscopy.

If patients have a St. Anthony provider, general x-rays, ultrasounds, and dexas are done in the clinic.
