Carroll area natives, Ken and Wilma Tranter, spent much of their adult lives in California and Nevada. When they decided to move to a retirement facility, they chose Orchard View in Carroll as their new home. Ken and Wilma appreciated living in a community where excellent healthcare services are easily available.
As part of their financial planning, Ken and Wilma used the mandatory distribution of their retirement accounts to obtain several St. Anthony charitable gift annuities. Since gift annuity rates are based on the donor's age/s, the Tranters received a significantly higher rate than they would in most other investments. In addition to receiving steady income for life, they also received a charitable contribution deduction, adding to the tax benefits of the gift.
Wilma passed away in 2014 and Ken continued to donate toward hospital projects that served community needs, knowing that he may never use them. In October of 2016, Ken donated $100,000 in memory of Wilma to the new assisted living facility being built on the St. Anthony campus. After his passing on October 31, 2016, Ken provided a gift through his estate to benefit Garden View Assisted Living.
The Tranters were generous people who found happiness in helping St. Anthony continue its mission of serving individuals and families who need specialized healthcare services.
