The St. Anthony Foundation proudly presented the inaugural Peggy White Spirit of Leadership Legacy Award to Kim Murrell, owner of Hair and Wigs by Kim, in recognition of her decades of compassionate service and dedication to supporting individuals facing health-related hair loss.
The award was established this year to honor the legacy of Peggy White, who is remembered for her lasting commitment to community service and leadership to St. Anthony. White was devoted to St. Anthony, serving on the St. Anthony Hospital Board of Directors (2013-2024), St. Anthony Foundation (2014-2024), and as a founding member of the St. Anthony Ministries as a juridic person in 2018.
Presented by Peggy White’s daughter, Maureen Beck, and son, Matt Lujano, during the St. Anthony Foundation Scholarship Ceremony, the award recognizes individuals who lead with the same values, break down barriers and positively impact the lives of others, often in quiet and meaningful ways.
“For more than 30 years, Kim has served others not just through her work, but through her heart,” said Maureen during the presentation. “What she has built through Hair and Wigs by Kim is so much more than a business — it is a place of comfort, healing and dignity.”
Murrell was recognized for her longstanding commitment to helping individuals experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatments and other health crises. Through her partnership with Strands of Strength, wigs are provided at no cost to patients and individuals in need, helping restore confidence, identity and hope during difficult times.
“You are still you, and you are not alone,” was the message Murrell was praised for sharing through her care and support of clients navigating deeply personal challenges.
“It is truly an honor to receive this award,” said Murrell. “Helping people feel like themselves again during some of the hardest moments of their lives has always been the most important part of what I do. Peggy White was so special, and I only hope to be half the person she was and continue carrying on her legacy of compassion and service. I’m grateful to the St. Anthony Foundation and the White family for this recognition.”
The Peggy White Spirit of Leadership Legacy Award celebrates leaders who embody humility, grace and service to others, qualities organizers say Murrell exemplifies every day.
“This award is not about titles or recognition,” Maureen shared. “It’s about how you treat people. It’s about how you show up in the moments that matter most. Kim leads with humility, grace and a heart that truly reflects service to others.”
The St. Anthony Foundation, alongside the White family, created the award to ensure Peggy White’s legacy of faith-filled leadership and community service continues to inspire future generations. Selected recipients of the Peggy White Spirit of Leadership Legacy Award receive a $5,000 financial award designed to further their charitable efforts, support positive influence within the community and continue Peggy White’s legacy of service and leadership.
