Patty Baumhover, RN, of St. Anthony Regional Hospital was presented with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at a reception with her family and co-workers this week. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform daily.
Patty received her Bachelor’s degree from Grand View University and is a board-certified medical-surgical nurse. Patty joined St. Anthony Regional Hospital in 1988 as a CNA. After her schooling was complete, Patty transitioned to RN in 1990. Over the years, Patty has worked in dialysis, same-day surgery, The Birth Place and, currently, Jill works in the medical-surgical pediatrics unit as the charge nurse. Patty and her husband Dave have four adult children, Kelsey (Ben) Caltrider, Allison, Kyle, and Brent Baumhover, and one granddaughter, Hadley Caltrider, 15 months.
A portion of the nomination submission read:
“Patty is the voice of the patient. She will listen and make recommendations for the appropriate level of care. Patty has a sincere approach to patient care, and I appreciate her kindness. I have spent more time in the hospital than most and Patty is a stand-out!”
Another nomination submitted on Patty’s behalf read:
“Patty is an excellent nurse and team leader. She spent a lot of time assisting with discharge orders on a patient; over and above 'normal' support and collaboration. With many temporary nurses on the floor, she tirelessly ensures each one knows their responsibilities, and she helps those that are new to the system. This has a major impact on the quality of patient care and safety.”
“It was extra special to present this award to Patty because she received two nominations, and she is much deserving of this award,” said Sara Gonnerman, Interim Chief Nursing Officer at St. Anthony. “St. Anthony is proud to continually recognize our nursing staff for their dedicated, compassionate care through the DAISY Foundation.”
