St. Anthony Regional Hospital is initiating a Registered Apprenticeship program for individuals interested in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Through the Apprenticeship program, Basic and Advanced CNA training courses and certification testing are provided at no cost. Those who enroll in the program also receive a sign-on stipend, uniform allowance, Geriatric Specialty certificate, and a year of mentored on-the-job training.
The Registered Apprenticeship program is funded through the Iowa Workforce Development Coronavirus Relief Registered Apprenticeship grant program. With the support of the relief grant, people whose jobs have been affected by the pandemic have the opportunity to earn a wage while receiving training to build a new career.
Certified nursing assistants provide varying levels of care and support for patients of all ages in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home care. The CNA training will begin Monday, January 11, and will be provided in partnership with Des Moines Area Community College. The enrollment deadline for the Apprenticeship program and CNA training is Monday, December 28, 2020.
“The CNA Apprenticeship program will provide an “earn and learn” model for local participants, who can receive a paycheck as they work toward credentials in careers where there is high demand,” said Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO. “We are excited at the prospect of providing new career opportunities for those interested in joining the healthcare workforce.”
