Serving as the organization’s co-presidents are Jeannie Spieler and Carol Gallegos, first quarter; Carol Gallegos and Diane Ohrtman, second quarter; Norma Schleisman and Ginny Sigwalt, third quarter; and Jan Potthoff and Linda Wernimont, fourth quarter. Judy Mayer was installed as treasurer and Carolyn Ehlers will serve as recording secretary. Sarah Foley, Development Director, conducted the installation of the officers.

“The Auxiliary plays an important role at St. Anthony, making a meaningful impact on everyone who visits or works in our hospital and nursing home—from patients and residents to staff,” said Allen Anderson, St. Anthony President and CEO. “Through their dedication, Auxiliary members manage the Coffee and Gift Shop, assist at the visitor reception desk, and support Mass in the nursing home, creating positive connections with patients and their families.”

Auxiliary members also work diligently behind the scenes to provide additional care and comfort to patients. Many Auxilians offer their talent by knitting or crocheting blankets to gift to babies born at The Birth Place. Also, Auxiliary members make prayer shawls, which are donated to the spiritual care program to provide comfort to St. Anthony patients.

“In addition to donating their time and talents, the St. Anthony Auxiliary has also been a strong financial supporter of the hospital over the year,” said Anderson. “We are grateful to Auxiliary members for their generosity and for contributing to the success of St. Anthony in numerous ways.”

The Auxiliary has donated to major hospital projects, including the Alzheimer’s addition, The Birth Place, Education Center, Stork’s Nest, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and cancer treatment enhancement. The organization also helps fill the need for many other donations, including equipment, toys, and supplies throughout the hospital.

Every year, the Auxiliary’s scholarship program awards money to students from DMACC Carroll Campus, Kuemper Catholic High School and Carroll High School who enter healthcare programs. The organization also contributes to the Iowa Healthcare Education and Research Foundation statewide scholarship program and is a major sponsor of the St. Anthony Golf Classic annually.

Currently, there are over 300 Auxiliary members, each playing a role in the organization. For information about the St. Anthony Auxiliary, contact Kathie Luchtel, membership chair, at 712-830-9632.
