St. Anthony Regional Hospital announced today its partnership with Capital Orthopaedics & CollaborationSports Medicine, PC, a Des Moines-based, board-certified group of orthopaedic specialists. The partnership will allow for full-time, comprehensive orthopaedic service at St. Anthony. A team of orthopaedic surgeons will serve west central Iowans at St. Anthony by mid-August, including Richard Goding, M.D.; Brian Crites, M.D.; and others yet to be determined. This partnership will bring a full spectrum of orthopaedic services to Carroll and the greater region.

“This is a proud moment for St. Anthony and west central Iowans. We have remained diligent in our efforts to continue orthopaedic services for our patients, and we are pleased to have found a tremendous partner in Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine,” said Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO. “This announcement comes as we celebrate Dr. Thomas Dulaney’s outstanding service to our region over the past two decades. We wish him the best in his next adventure as he finalizes his relocation to Des Moines.”

Through this partnership, St. Anthony will provide seamless orthopaedic service in west central Iowa. Dr. Crites will begin serving patients at St. Anthony on Tuesday, June 9 and continue to see patients each Tuesday. These services will complement Dr. Dulaney, who will continue to serve at St. Anthony through mid-August. At that time, Dr. Goding will begin full-time services, and additional surgeons will begin seeing patients at St. Anthony one day a week.

“I am excited to serve patients in west central Iowa,” Dr. Crites said. “My background in sports medicine will complement the orthopaedic expertise at St. Anthony. Carroll is a great community and I’m looking forward to the opportunity.”

Dr. Crites specializes in general orthopaedics, arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, and knee reconstruction. He earned his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency and general surgery and orthopaedic surgery internship at Duke University and an adult reconstructive surgery fellowship at the Center for Hip and Knee Surgery in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Maryland in College Park, where he provided medical care for the Baltimore Ravens. After his fellowship, he worked as the head team physician for the University of Maryland and as the team orthopedist for the Baltimore Ravens. Today, Dr. Crites is the team physician for the Iowa Wolves, the Iowa Wild, and Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. He also provides coverage as the team physician for several Des Moines area high schools.

Dr. Crites is board certified in sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and holds three-part National Board of Examiners and two-part American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons certifications.

“We have had a tremendous, collaborative relationship with the entire team at St. Anthony and have accomplished a lot in the short amount of time we have been working on a partnership,” said Ryan Smith, Vice President/COO for Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. “I am confident in the partnership we have developed and the potential to create an unmatched orthopaedic practice to serve the people of Carroll and surrounding communities for many years to come.”

In August, Dr. Goding and his family will relocate to Carroll, where Dr. Goding will begin full-time orthopaedic services at St. Anthony. Dr. Goding has been practicing here in Iowa since 2016 as the Director of the Joint Preservation Institute of Iowa, located in West Des Moines.
