DialysisSt. Anthony Regional Hospital has earned its fourth consecutive 5 Star rating in this year’s Medicare Dialysis Facility Compare report. The report provides information on more than 6,500 facilities throughout the country. It takes into account eight tables that summarize patient outcomes and treatment patterns for chronic dialysis patients, including: quality of patient care; avoidance of hospitalizations, transfusion and bloodstream infections; dialysis adequacy, long term catheter use and mineral and bone disorders; patient experience of care and more.

“We attribute the quality and professionalism of our department to our skilled staff of professionally licensed nurses,” said Lynn Riesenberg, St. Anthony Director of Dialysis, who has served as head of the department for 15 years. “Dialysis units are not required to employ licensed nurses for treatment, but at St. Anthony we believe this provides our patients with the highest quality of care.”

The department opened in 1997, and is the only dialysis unit within a 35-mile radius in west central Iowa. It can accommodate up to 36 patients each day.

“Our dialysis services allow patients and their families to remain close to home while receiving treatment, which can be especially helpful during inclement weather,” Riesenberg said. “In conjunction with dialysis, the host of services we provide at St. Anthony enables us to care for the whole person – as we collaborate with wound care, Iowa Heart, physical therapy, the laboratory, emergency room, nursing home and more. This provides a sense of comfort to our patients that reaffirms they are truly receiving the best care possible.”

The dialysis unit is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For questions related to kidney health issues, please contact the St. Anthony Dialysis Department at (712) 794-5278.
