June 2026 - The Pulse

Mariah Spies Honored with DAISY Award!
Mariah Spies, BSN, RN, has been honored with the DAISY Award
for Extraordinary Nurses. Mariah received the award during a special reception attended by her family and co-workers during Hospital Week 2026.
An excerpt from her nomination reads:
“Not once did she forget about me or blow off my concerns, like I have had at previous facilities. She stayed on top of everything, making sure I had water to drink and warm blankets. Mariah was able to place my IV in the first time, which never happens, and answered all my questions. … She called the next day to check in on me, which was greatly appreciated. She helped distract me through the IV fluids and through the confusion and was such a sweetheart. I was so scared and upset, and she helped me calm my fears and talked me through everything. She deserves all the recognition and more.”
Congratulations, Mariah!

28th Annual St. Anthony Foundation Golf Outing
The greens will be buzzing once again as the 28th Annual St.

Trauma Informed Care Training: Wednesday, June 17
Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a person-centered framework that shifts the question from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” It recognizes the widespread impact of trauma, understands potential paths to recovery, and actively prevents re-traumatization across medical, social, and educational settings.
The 6 Core Principles of Trauma Informed Care:
- Safety: Ensuring physical, psychological, and emotional safety so individuals feel secure.
- Trustworthiness & Transparency: Building trust through clarity, consistency, and maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Peer Support: Utilizing individuals with lived trauma experiences for validation and shared support.
- Collaboration & Mutuality: Partnering with the individual, recognizing that the provider and survivor are on equal footing.
- Empowerment, Voice & Choice: Giving individuals control over their care and decision-making.
- Cultural, Historical, & Gender Issues: Moving past cultural stereotypes and biases to provide responsive care.
