DAISYDeb Burnett Honored with DAISY Award!

Deb Burnett, BSN, RN, has been honored with the DAISY AwardDeb for Extraordinary Nurses. Deb received the award during a special reception attended by her family and co-workers during Hospital Week 2025.

An excerpt from her nomination reads:

“A male patient was in the ED room, throwing anything he could find. Without hesitation, Deb entered the room. She immediately met him on his level, asked what had happened to him, and how she could help. She showed him empathy, and he immediately calmed down and began talking to her. His main concern was that he didn’t have any shoes. Deb assured him we could help, and within minutes, she had found and given him a pair.”

“Deb always prioritizes someone in need of help over anything else on her already full plate. She instills in us that patients always come first and should be treated with dignity, respect, and empathy—no matter their situation.”

Deb’s commitment to mental health care and her plans to serve as a psychiatric provider exemplify the values celebrated by the DAISY Award.

Deb

Congratulations to the outstanding DAISY award nominees across St. Anthony!

Foundation27th Annual St. Anthony Foundation Golf Outing

The greens will be buzzing once again as the 27th Annual St.Golf Anthony Golf Classic hits the fairways on Monday, June 23, at the Carroll National Golf Course.

This long-standing tradition brings together community members and supporters for a fun-filled day of golf. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the purchase of a PET CT Scanner, a diagnostic tool that will enhance imaging services at St. Anthony.

The addition of this advanced technology aligns closely with our mission to provide compassionate care. A PET CT scanner improves our ability to detect and diagnose conditions more accurately and efficiently — ultimately leading to better outcomes for the patients we serve.

The Golf Classic continues to be an example of how community support helps drive innovation and excellence in healthcare at St. Anthony. We’re grateful for the generosity of our sponsors, participants, and everyone who helps make this event such a success year after year.

Here’s to another great day on the course — and another big step forward in advancing the care we provide.

ICYMI: The Birth Place BOOM!

May 2025 was a milestone month for the OB Department, and we’re proud to share some exciting highlights!

We welcomed 51 beautiful babies —23 boys and 28 girls—with deliveries coming from seven different counties: Carroll, Crawford, Guthrie, Monona, Sac, Greene, and Audubon. The biggest baby weighed in at 10 lbs 0 oz, while the tiniest bundle of joy was 5 lbs 3 oz. We also had one set of twins.

With 10 dedicated rooms in The Birth Place, we experienced such high volumes that we had to overflow into 4 MedSurg rooms—a first since 2019! These overflow rooms will remain available through the summer months to accommodate continued high census: 54 in July, 51 in August and 33 in September.

May shattered several long-standing records:

  • Total births: 51 (surpassing our previous record of 50 set in July 2019)
  • Most deliveries in 7 days: 25
  • Most in 12 hours: 5
  • Most in 24 hours: 9
  • Our very own Dr. Coffey delivered 4 babies in just 16 hours!! Pictured bottom right.

Thank you to our incredible physicians, OB nurses, food & nutrition, laundry, housekeeping and all of the St. Anthony teams for your hard work, dedication, and the compassionate care to make every patient feel special when times get busy. Here’s to a summer full of tiny toes and joyful milestones!

Great job, OB Team!

AngeloSpiritual Care Note from Chaplain Angelo

The value of all service lies in the spirit in which you serve and not in the importance or magnitude of the service. Even the lowliest task or deed is made holy, joyous, and prosperous when it is filled with love. ~ Charles Fillmore

As we celebrate Saint Anthony Feast Day on June 13th, I want to share my appreciation to all the work that you all do. Know that all you do, no matter how small or big, makes an impact. The care and healing that takes place in this hospital make the world a little bit better.

I had the opportunity to go to Assisi and Rome at the beginning of the year. I went to places where St. Francis and St. Clare did their work. It truly changed the way I see the world and how I do my work as your chaplain.

The most inspiring story that keeps me working is how St. Francis began his work. It started out with him riding his horse, and he saw a leper. In that time, lepers were the rejects of society.

Well, St. Francis disregarded it because he got off his horse and went towards the leper. He gave him a kiss and probably a hug. He saw the leper as a child of God, or imago dei.

Imago dei means that we were born in the image of God. It means that everyone is created by a loving God. We, in turn, must love others in the way that God sees us.

A small gesture creates ripples in people’s lives. The actions and words that you have done continue the legacy and work of the people before you. The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration graced these halls before you. And now you have the opportunity to make your mark as well.

So, as you celebrate St. Anthony Feast Day, I want to remind you that you have a Spirit. That Spirit has been passed to you, and I hope you will continue to uphold it and also share it, too.

Peace be with you,

Chaplain Angelo
