Van Meter Inc. Donates $10,000 to Support Cancer Care at St. Anthony

On Tuesday, December 23, the Carroll branch of Van Meter Inc. presented a $10,000 donation to St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Foundation in support of the upcoming PET/CT Scanner project and the Cancer Center’s Meals of Hope program.

The PET/CT Scanner, planned for installation in June/July 2026, will support early detection and diagnosis of cancer while also serving as a backup CT scanner for us here at the hospital. This advanced imaging technology will help ensure patients can receive high-quality diagnostic care close to home.

A portion of the gift will also support Meals of Hope, a donor-funded initiative of the St. Anthony Cancer Center that provides a nutritious, balanced meal to patients following treatment. The program is rooted in the belief that proper nutrition plays a vital role in recovery and overall wellness during cancer care.

“The generosity of Van Meter Inc. directly impacts our ability to care for patients when they need it most,” said Sarah Foley, Foundation Director. “Their support strengthens both our technology and the compassionate services we provide.”

The Foundation extends its sincere thanks to Van Meter Inc. and the Carroll branch team for their leadership and commitment to advancing cancer care in the community. Their generosity will make a meaningful difference for patients and families—now and in the future.

Winter Walking Tips: How To Prevent Slips and Falls featuring Dr. Rick Goding with St. Anthony OrthopedicsWinter Walking

Slips and falls are common this time of year, especially when conditions change quickly and hidden ice catches people off guard. Yet many injuries can be prevented with a few simple precautions.

Goding“Winter can be beautiful, but it’s also slippery,” said Dr. Richard Goding, M.D., who specializes in orthopedics at St. Anthony Regional Hospital and hosts the “St. Anthony Hospital Orthopedics Show.” “We see many, many injuries from slips and falls in the ice and the snow — and a lot of them can be preventable.”

To help you stay safe this season, remember these quick tips:

  • Take your time. Walk with smaller, deliberate steps and use handrails whenever possible.
  • Watch for black ice. It can be nearly invisible, so move carefully and test your footing even when surfaces look clear.
  • If you unexpectedly find yourself on ice, take short, shuffling steps and get to dry ground as soon as you can.
  • When in doubt, don’t go out — consider asking a friend, neighbor or family member for assistance.
  • If you do fall, don’t try to tough it out. “Pain, swelling or trouble moving a joint could mean a fracture or a sprain, and the sooner you get it checked out, the faster you can heal,” said Goding.

At St. Anthony, our orthopedic team is here to help you stay safe and active this winter. If you have concerns about a fall or ongoing joint pain, schedule an appointment by visiting our website or calling 712-794-5536 — and remember to walk smart while enjoying the season.

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It):

Cardiac Rehab and Respiratory Therapy are officially settled into their new home. As of Wednesday, December 10, both departments are now located within the Rehab Therapies Department on the second floor of the hospital.

We anticipate that this change may cause some temporary confusion for patients and visitors, and we appreciate your help in guiding them to the correct location. Please keep the following points in mind:

  • The Rehab Therapies Department is on the second floor, just inside the North Atrium entrance.
  • The North Atrium entrance is the hospital’s main glass entrance.
  • All patients with appointments for Rehab Services—including physical, occupational, speech, cardiac, or respiratory therapies—should now check in at the Rehab Therapies Department.
  • For easiest access, patients and visitors are encouraged to park in the north campus lots or the second-floor parking garage and enter through the North Atrium.
  • Our hospital concierge, located in the North Atrium lobby, is also available to assist with directions.

Thank you for your continued support as we transition these services. Your assistance helps ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for everyone who uses or works with Cardiac Rehab and Respiratory Therapy.
