Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents. People whose occupations have a high level of daily interaction with youth, such as school staff, coaches, youth group leaders, and parents, have found this course very valuable.
Through this course, participants will learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE)
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen nonjudgmentally
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage appropriate professional help
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies
