Growing families from ten surrounding counties in western Iowa choose The Birth Place at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll to deliver their babies. These families trust in St. Anthony, so St. Anthony is continuing to invest in them. After nearly twenty years, The Birth Place will soon be undergoing department-wide renovations.

After construction is complete, expectant families entering The Birth Place through the secured doors will be met with a tranquil, calming, spiritual space with neutral colors and lighting.

Nurse Station

The nurse’s station is directly inside The Birth Place.

The eight updated Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum (LDRP) rooms feature state-of-the-art equipment, private bathrooms, and new birthing beds providing safety and comfort. The large and functional birthing suites are specially designed to keep families together for the duration of their stay.

The Cesarean section (C-section) delivery room will remain located conveniently inside The Birth Place as well as the newborn treatment and procedure room.

“The space was designed with the comfort and security of growing families in mind as well as to keep The Birth Place at high functionality,” said St. Anthony President and CEO, Allen Anderson. “We are excited to begin the renovations soon.”

During construction, delivering mothers will feel at ease in a secured transition obstetrical department across the bridge still on the third floor of the hospital. All of The Birth Place equipment, beds, supplies, security system and even artwork will be moved to the unit to create the best experience for families welcoming newborns. Additionally, the C-section room will be conveniently located across the hallway in the surgery center.

“Families will be safe and comfortable in the transitional birthing department under the exceptional care that our board-certified providers and specially trained nurses give at The Birth Place,” said Ginny Uhlenkamp, Director at The Birth Place. “While the staff is eager for the renovated unit, no detail was overlooked during the move of the unit.”

The construction of the entire obstetrical unit will soon begin. The completion date is projected for the summer of 2023.
