Job Summary

Provides quality nursing care in the Emergency Department through professional practice and clinical competence by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process and professional judgment in Emergency Department nursing care.

• Demonstrates expert nursing skills and collects data related to status of immediate situation.

• Able to initiate life saving measures and triages appropriately.

• Communicates problems and suggestions to Director.

• Assists with reviewing and revising Hospital emergency and disaster plans.

• Explains procedures, treatments and discharge instructions to patient and families to provide understanding and allay apprehension.

• Works closely and effectively with medical staff, other departments, patients and families.

• Provides constant monitoring and assessment of the patient and reports changes to the physician.

• Works willingly with a positive attitude, treats patients, significant others and co-workers with respect.

• Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.

• Attends 75% of unit staff meetings and in-services.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, tenant, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

Associate's degree (A. A.) or graduate of a school of nursing.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, patients, families and the general public.

Position Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations.

• Graduate of an accredited school for professional nursing.

• Currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Iowa.

• Two years of acute care experience in Med/Surg/Peds and/or ICU preferred.

• BCLS certification prior to hire.

• ACLS, PALS, TNCC and MAB certification within six months of employment.
