Upon arrival at St. Anthony Regional Hospital for your sleep study, park on the south side of the hospital, use the emergency entrance and check in at the admission desk. You will be escorted to the St. Anthony Sleep Center, a private bedroom and bathroom designed with the comfort of home. Please let us know if you have any special needs when you arrive. Bring something comfortable to sleep in, along with your own pillow, and anything else that will help make you comfortable during the test. We want you to be able to sleep when the test is started, so you are encouraged to read or watch television to relax before falling asleep. If you need to get up during the night, the technician will be able to disconnect you quickly.
During your test, your sleep patterns are monitored by small electrodes that are attached to your head, chest, and legs. Small sensors are placed near your nose, mouth, and throat, two belts are placed around your chest and a sensor is clipped on your finger. This is how the information is gathered that helps pinpoint abnormalities that may be affecting your sleep.
The following morning, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about how you slept. The information gathered during your sleep test is sent to a specialist for evaluation. Your personal physician should have the results in two weeks or less. If your physician has not contacted you within two weeks of your test, please call either your physician or the Sleep Center.
