St. Anthony Regional Hospital recently expanded its Mental Health Service Department with the addition of a full-time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Cyndy Johnson. She will serve the needs of outpatient mental health clients, specializing in medication management, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dementia and behavioral concerns, as well as provide care to patients in the inpatient unit.

Cyndy Johnson, ARNP“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the important health sector of mental health here in the Carroll community,” Johnson said. “I am impressed with St. Anthony’s comprehensive treatment program, which encourages patients to get involved in groups and develop coping skills. It is my goal to utilize my experience and knowledge to enhance the already outstanding quality of care at St. Anthony.”

With nearly 30 years of experience in mental health services, Johnson comes to St. Anthony from UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s in Sioux City, where she was a psychiatric registered nurse. In 2014, she made the decision to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and completed her post-masters certificate at the University of South Alabama in December 2016.

“St. Anthony is pleased to expand our mental health service offerings to Carroll and surrounding communities,” said Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO. “There is growing demand and declining availability to help those who are experiencing emotional and psychiatric difficulties. It is our commitment to meet the changing and diverse needs of all west central Iowans.”

Cyndy and her husband, Mark, a retired firefighter, have two children and two grandchildren. In her spare time, Cyndy enjoys spending time with family, gardening, cooking and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
