Dr. Suzanne Feigofsky, a cardiac electrophysiologist at Iowa Heart Center in Carroll, has been serving the local community since 2014. Earlier this month, Dr. Feigofsky successfully implanted the first three leadless pacemakers at St. Anthony Regional Hospital Surgical Center—an innovative advancement in cardiac care now available locally.
Patients receiving leadless pacemakers often experience faster recovery times and fewer complications compared to traditional pacemakers.
“The Micra™ leadless pacemaker is 93 percent smaller than a traditional pacemaker, leaves no bump under the skin, no chest scar, and requires no leads,” said Dr. Feigofsky. “I’m thrilled to bring this technology to Carroll—one of only three locations in Iowa currently offering this option.”
This pacemaker is a completely self-contained device implanted directly into the heart through a catheter. It’s about the size of a vitamin capsule and approved for MRI scans.
