St. Anthony Expands Women’s Services

Charles Svensson MDSt. Anthony Regional Hospital welcomes OB/GYN Charles Svensson, M.D. Dr. Svensson will focus on general obstetrics and gynecology services, while specializing in minimally invasive surgery, endometrial ablation and colposcopy. He will serve patients routinely at the St. Anthony Clinic and in some surrounding communities. Svensson joins the hospital’s medical staff alongside OB/GYN Dr. Nelson Lo.

Dr. Svensson comes to St. Anthony from the UnityPoint Clinic in Des Moines, where he served most recently as chief of staff. He has 26 years of experience in the medical field, working for Henderson and Walton Women's Center; and Crommelin and Svensson in Birmingham, Ala.; and opening his own practice, The Women's Wellness Center in Foley, Ala. Svensson earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Alabama. He completed his residency at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

 

"I've always found the medical field fascinating," Svensson said. "The work and the process just made sense to me, and I knew serving the health care needs of women and newborns was the best fit for me."

Svensson and Dee have six children and six grandchildren. Together, they enjoy being active in the community and are involved in animal rescue and relocation. In his free time, Svensson enjoys competitive golf, University of Alabama athletics, snow skiing and traveling.
