On September 22, St. Anthony Regional Hospital & Nursing Home announced the development of a two-story, 36-unit assisted living facility. Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds; Shannon Landauer, Carroll Area Development Corporation Executive Director; and St. Anthony representatives Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO, and Fred Dolezal, St. Anthony Board Chairperson, kicked off construction of the facility with a ground breaking ceremony. The $10 million project will be located on the southeast side of the St. Anthony campus. Father Tim Johnson, Holy Spirit Church Pastor, offered a prayer of blessing for the project.

The facility, named Garden View, will complement St. Anthony Senior Living offerings, which also include Orchard View, a 50-unit independent living facility and the St. Anthony Nursing Home, a 79-bed facility which includes an 18-bed Memory Care unit.

"St. Anthony recognized senior housing offerings are in high demand," said Barb Corey, St. Anthony Nursing Home Director. "Through the Garden View project, we are able to enhance our continuum of care and plan for the future housing and health care needs of Carroll and surrounding communities."

St. Anthony enlisted market research support from Wipfli LLC, an Illinois-based firm to determine the scope and need of the community's aging population. Based on demand, the facility will be positioned for future expansion.

Garden View will offer one- and two-bedroom apartments. Staff will remain onsite 24-7, and the facility anticipates employing a staff of 20 to 25 full-time employees.

Garden View will feature amenities, including a chapel and multi-purpose room equipped for activities, gathering areas, central and private dining, a salon, exercise area, library and a pub. Services available include: pendants for emergency services, medication management, meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation and social activities. Facility grounds will have beautiful gardens featuring a grotto.

"St. Anthony is showcasing our commitment to care for the residents of west central Iowa through all stages of life," Corey said. "We are pleased to bring this state-of-the-art facility, with modern amenities and services, to the St. Anthony campus."

Architect Horty Elving & Associates and project management team Graham Construction will begin site prep this fall. Anticipated completion of the project is scheduled for summer 2018.
