St. Anthony Specialty Clinic Extends Cancer Care Coverage
Friday, 05 JANUARY 2018

In 2018, St. Anthony Regional Hospital will extend its commitment to cancer care in west central Iowa. Beginning the week of Jan. 8, Mark Westberg, M.D., Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates, will serve patients at the St. Anthony Specialty Clinic two days each week. He will work in the Oncology Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, joining Robert Behrens, M.D., who is available by appointment on Mondays.

"Providing consistent medical coverage through the St. Anthony Specialty Clinic is important to our patients in west central Iowa," Dr. Westberg said. "By extending our days of coverage, we are able to assist more patients with their medical needs and be more accommodating of their schedules. During a time of uncertainty in dealing with cancer, it's imperative we create stability for our patients."

As a result of the extension of cancer care coverage, the St. Anthony Specialty Clinic will accept cancer care patients three days every week. Previously, Dr. Westberg provided services at the specialty clinic one day each week. Chemotherapy will continue to be administered to patients five days per week by oncology certified staff. Patients may call the oncology unit between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for questions and to set appointments. Staff nurses coordinate with oncologists as needed, even on the days they are not in the clinic.

"We are always looking for ways to offer the latest technological advancements in medicine, combined with the highest quality of care for patients," said Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO. "By extending our cancer care coverage at the specialty clinic, we are demonstrating our commitment to continued care for our community members."
