New Pediatrician at St. Anthony!
St. Anthony Regional Hospital is happy to welcome Pediatrician Thomas McAuliff, D.O., to its medical staff. His service at St. Anthony Clinic began on February 15th, and will provide pediatric care for infants, children, and adolescents at the Carroll location.
“Children are a gift, in and of themselves, and it’s so important to me that we continue to serve the families of this area,” said Dr. McAuliff. “The hardest thing in life is having a sick child and I take it to heart when a parent needs help for their child.”
McAuliff comes to St. Anthony from MercyOne Pediatric Emergency Care in Des Moines where he specialized in pediatric emergency care. He completed his residency at Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital for Children and received his Doctor of Medicine from Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery.
“Being a pediatrician isn’t something that ends at 5pm,” McAuliff said. “You take it to heart, and carry it with you all day, heart and soul.”
McAuliff and his wife, Julie, have seven children from age 16 through their 30’s along with two grandchildren. His family and faith in God are extremely important to him and notes that compassion and love for others have been his guide through his personal and professional life. In his spare time, he enjoys the arts and music as well as Oklahoma State University athletics.
“Dr. McAuliff is an exceptional addition to our team and we are so excited to have him here at St. Anthony,” said Ed Smith, St. Anthony President and CEO. “Raising a healthy child involves a partnership between the child’s parents and his or her pediatrician and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our region.”

Radiology has 14 full-time, 2 part-time, and 5 PRN staff.
Biggest Department Challenge: Providing coverage for CT and X-ray 24 hours a day, seven days a week
We are proud of all of various services we are able to provide in Radiology. Our modalities include CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mobile PET/CT, Ultrasound, and X-ray including Fluoroscopy. Radiology staff float to the Carroll Clinic to provide X-ray, DEXA, and Ultrasound services as well. We utilize portable X-ray when possible to limit patient movement in situations where transporting should be avoided. Mobile Fluoroscopy is provided using C-Arms in the OR setting and Pain Clinic.
Did You Know?...
- Our full time staff take call on top of their scheduled 40 hour work week to ensure that we can offer their primary modality during the business day.
- Many of our staff have multimodality certifications. This allows more flexibility when scheduling staff as they are able to float to different modalities as needed.
- We are one of the few hospitals in our area to have a Radiologist on-site FIVE days a week (except when Dr. Soe is on vacation)!

Multiple teams work together for this Mission Moment
During the week of March 1st, Lori Pietig, Oncology Services Director, received a donation of some beautiful handmade canes to distribute to patients in need, and sent out an email alert to other managers to let them know.
Simultaneously, Deb Burnett, Mental Health Unit Director, became aware of a patient who needed a cane since she was not able to return to her home. Within moments, one of the canes was given to her. She said that it made her feel “special” and “so happy”. Deb said it was apparent that she had not felt either of those things for a while and smiled when she talked about it.
Tom Schroeder from Maintenance was then called and came up right away and cut the cane down to the correct height. The patient was able to go to her new home with a cane that was beautiful, just her size, and made her feel special!
Thank you to Deb Burnett for sharing this wonderful mission moment.
St. Anthony offers a blog page and subscriber newsletters to inform and educate.
Recently, Lori Pietig, Oncology Services Director, authored a blog post that was published via the Iowa Cancer Consortium that is also shared on the St. Anthony blog page HERE. In addition, Chronic Care Center often sends diabetes education or healthy eating tips in the form of an emailed newsletter that users can subscribe to HERE.
If you'd like to submit an educational blog post or items for the newsletter from your departments, please contact Paula Lambertz at ext. 5231.

The spare change collected in the money boxes at the cafeteria cash registers are designated for the Friendship Fund. This fund provides gift certificates to some of our cancer patients to purchase fuel at one of the six locally owned gas stations partnered in this program. Social workers, nurse managers and the nurse navigator in the cancer center watch for patient and family circumstances where financial support is beneficial. Our hope through this program is to brighten many patient’s days with a small gift from their friends at St. Anthony.
In 2020, we brought in $434.53 to the Friendship Fund with the average per month being $36.21. In December 2020, we raised $82.79. Overall, since the program was started in 2016, we have raised $2,159.41. Thank you to everyone who contributes in small or big ways to the Friendship Fund!
