SUMMARY Performs a variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and grounds maintenance duties. Ensures safety and security of patients, residents, staff, building and grounds to eliminate or minimize avoidable security risks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs emergency, routine and preventive maintenance. Meets quality and time standards.
Provides support to staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Follows supervisor’s instructions and provides feedback in the appropriate setting.
Works on his/her own with normal supervision.
Uses and maintains hospital equipment according to manufactures instructions. Ensures Department equipment is in good working order and safe to use.
Utilizes all safety and personal protective equipment.
Reports any unsafe condition or safety hazard immediately to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facility Services Director.
Documents and reports all unusual occurrences to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facility Services Director.
Assists in the training of personnel in the operation and repair of equipment.
Supervisors, co-workers, hospital staff, patients, residents and visitors are treated with dignity and respect.
Completes all health stream education requirements on time and passes course exams.
Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school education or general equivalency diploma (GED).
Mechanic must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Mechanic must have the ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, patients, families, and other employees or the organization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Knowledge of the operation and repair of a variety of types of equipment and machinery including, but not limited to, power tools, tractors, lawn mowers, compressors, engines, pumps and generators. Experience in security preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; blood-borne pathogens; and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
