Job Description

SUMMARY Assists the Nursing Home Director in planning, organizing, developing and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be directed by the Nursing Home Director, to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists the Nursing Home Director in conducting the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.

Ensures that all nursing service staff is in compliance with their respective job descriptions.

Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government and private agencies as requested by Administrator or Director of Nursing Home.

Assists in conducting and coordinating the development and completion of the resident assessment (MDS) in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the resident assessment, including the implementation of RAPS and Triggers.

Works with the multi-disciplinary care plan team in developing a comprehensive resident assessment and care plan for each resident.

Coordinates the development of a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.

Maintains resident’s rights to confidentiality, fair treatment, privacy and the right to refuse treatment by monitoring resident’s care, reviewing complaints and keeping written records that indicate action taken to resolve the complaint.

Ensures that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.

Ensures that medical and nursing care is administered in accordance with the resident’s wishes, including the implementation of advance directives.

Monitors for care plan compliance and completes compliance rounds routinely.

Compiles daily resident guides and monitors for accuracy.

Works closely with front line staff to assist in care plan compliance.

Reports all findings to the Director of Nursing Home or clinical services supervisor.

Shares hallway charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Works as a floor nurse / supervisor when needed if staffing is not sufficient.

Monitors staff for care plan compliance at all time of the day, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Routinely comes to the facility during off hours during the night and weekend to monitor care plan compliance.

Ensures that temporary care plans are accurate and timely.

Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program.

Communicates professionally and respectfully with supervisors and co-workers in a way that generates a collaborative effort and positive team spirit. Optimum resident care requires a positive team effort.

Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

Attends and participates in continuing education programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the profession, as well as to maintain current licensure.

Completes all other duties as assigned.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Attends all mandatory meetings and programs and compiles meeting notes ad designated by the director.

Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Participate in on-call schedule and responsibilities.

Requirements

RN licensure in the State of Iowa

CPR certified

1-3 years of work experience

Demonstrated initiative, ability to work with others, and good professional judgment.

Ability to work independently and organize time effectively.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines while being flexible

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock and blood-borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Has the ability to write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals. Will effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, patients, families and the general public.
