Job Description

SUMMARY  Provides basic patient care duties, obtains prior authorizations/benefit verifications, orders diagnostic testing and provides clerical services in an outpatient clinic setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

If assigned, orders and arranges for diagnostic testing, maintains records of tests performed and results received.

Assists with inpatient visits as assigned. 

Cleans and sets up exam rooms, maintains inventory of supplies.

Reports results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.

Maintains equipment and instruments, identifying problems and coordinating appropriate repairs.

Assists with preparation of patients and a variety of wound care procedures as assigned.

Assists with assessment by collection of basic data for assigned patients in the clinic or on the phone.  Documents basic assessment and care/instructions given.

Coordinates ongoing patient flow through the clinic process, ensuring efficient and effective continuity including greeting patients, checking vital signs, medication reconciliation, and transporting patients. 

Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered.

Performs miscellaneous office duties including, but not limited to, filing and retrieving medical records, operating various business machines (FAX, copier, and computer).  Obtaining prior authorizations/benefit verifications, ordering patient dressing supplies, scheduling and registering patients. 

Completes all other duties as assigned.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.


This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

One year certificate from college or technical school.


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.


Currently certified as a Certified Medical Technician in the State of Iowa.

BCLS certification prior to employment.
