Crisis Prevention Training for Healthcare Providers Offered

“Managing Aggressive Behavior” is a crisis management education program that emphasizes prevention and non-physical intervention strategies.  The training also incorporates pain-free physical intervention skills necessary for the safety of both clients and staff. 

Sessions are planned for Thursday and Friday, November 4 and 5 at St. Anthony Hospital. The initial class for New Providers will be held on November 4 at 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Review sessions for past participants will be offered on November 5, at 8:00 am – 11:00 am and again at 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm. Classes will be held in the Education Center, St. Francis and Clare Conference Rooms.  Parking is available in the garage on the lower levels of the Education Center.

The program introduces the learner to the cornerstones of the Managing Aggressive Behavior (MAB) training philosophy and contains valuable guidelines for managing critical situations effectively, using a standardized approach for nonphysical/physical interventions with aggressive persons.
Course faculty are John Walker, RN and Dorothy Faidley, RN, Certified Trainers, Managing Aggressive Behavior Curriculum.

Participants who complete the New Provider Session will receive .6 CEUs for 6.0 contact hours and those who take part in the Review Session will receive .3 CEUs, for 3.0 contact hours by Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #72, St. Anthony Regional Hospital.

The attendance fee is $45.00 for the New Provider session and $20.00 for the Review Session. The fee includes tuition, handout materials, refreshments, and CE recording.  Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, with no clogs, sandals, or jewelry for the demonstration of physical intervention skills.

According to Program Coordinator, Katie Towers, RN, “This is a valuable class that can be applied to the workplace, or to everyday life situations. The training presents principles, techniques, and skills for recognizing, reducing, and managing violent and aggressive behavior. The program also provides safe and supportive methods of dealing with aggressive people.”
