Local Board of Health to do Community Assessment

Tuesday, 31 August 2010

Information collected through this process will be used to identify health priorities and formulate plans that will help improve the overall health of residents of the community.  Local boards of health are charged with the responsibility for leading this initiative and have received guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health. Following the assessment process, plans are developed and reports will be available through the Community Health Needs Assessment and Health Improvement Plan (CHNA&HIP) web site

“In these tight economic times, it’s important for us to maximize our resources and place our dollars where they can do the most good,” said Stephanie King, Carroll County Public Health Coordinator.  “Carefully assessing the health needs of our community and getting input from many community partners will help us do that.” Community partners may include hospitals, community organizations, health centers, social service providers, school officials, law enforcement personnel, faith-based organizations, businesses, industry, citizens and the media and any one who is interested in the health of the community.

Input from members of the entire community is sought for Carroll County’s community health needs assessment process.  A community needs survey is available on Public Health’s website and on the St. Anthony Regional Hospital website under Public Health Services.  If a community member does not have access to a computer, they may call Public Health to receive a copy of the survey.  The survey will need to be filled out and returned to Public Health to be put into the computer.
