Through the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation (IHERF), a subsidiary of the Iowa Hospital Association, Iowa’s hospitals have created a scholarship program to assist students pursing careers in healthcare.  The scholarships are designed to fill specific Iowa hospital workforce shortage needs.  Students can receive up to $6,000 in assistance from the program.

Eligible candidates for the scholarship must:
• Be enrolled in an accredited health care education program listed on the application.
• Be within two years of completing your professional education.
• Be willing to work for an Iowa hospital (one year per scholarship awarded).

Since 2005, when the first scholarships were awarded, 136 students have received IHERF Health Care Career Scholarships, with a total value of $408,000. Two St. Anthony employees have been the recipients of the IHERF scholarship in recent years.
