The “100 Great Iowa Nurses” program recognizes outstanding nurses who have made a meaningful contribution to their patients, colleagues and the nursing profession. Ms. Theulen was selected from hundreds of nominations from across the state for the honor.

“Cheri’s continued pursuit of excellence in her everyday work with patients no doubt earned her this honor,” said Karen Timm, Vice President for Patient Services at St. Anthony. “Cheri’s high expectations for herself and her staff, along with her willingness to assist in any way she can to make things better for patients, are what set her apart.”

Ms. Theulen has cared for patients as a registered nurse at St. Anthony for over 30 years and currently supervises the nursing staff in Same Day Surgery, Infusion Therapy and the Outpatient Clinics. Besides managing multiple departments, she has assisted with the redesign and remodeling of the 3rd floor patient rooms and Infusion Therapy. She was also involved in the design of the surgery building, initiation of the same day surgery department and the pre-admission testing unit.

Being chosen as one of Iowa’s 100 Great Nurses confirms the value of Cheri’s leadership at St. Anthony,” said Ed Smith, Interim CEO. “She acts as a mentor for other nurses by sharing the latest nursing research and stepping up to initiate improvements for patient care. Cheri’s high expectations for herself and others have set the standard at St. Anthony.”

This year’s 100 Great Iowa Nurses will be honored on May 6, 2012 – the beginning of National Nurses Week – at a reception at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, in Des Moines. Recipients from past years are invited back and the 2012 awardees will have family, friends and colleagues in attendance to share in their recognition of outstanding achievement.
