National Nursing HomeWeek Letter to the Editor Tuesday, 12 May 2009 National Nursing Home Week was celebrated at St. Anthony Nursing Home during the week of May 10-16. During the week, we held a variety of activities to show appreciation to the caregivers who provide services to the elderly in our nursing home. On a daily basis, the mission of nursing home caregivers is to provide dignity, compassion, and security to individuals who oftentimes do not wish to be there in the first place. Nursing home caregivers continually provide safety and reassurance in a secure environment to individuals who are frequently confused, missing their homes and families, and experiencing declining health. At times, the privilege of caring for the elderly in nursing homes can be challenging, strenuous, and yet rewarding. We are very fortunate that caregivers within our area are dedicated to taking care of our family members and loved ones with kindness, respect, and professionalism. Our nursing home caregivers are truly heroes worthy of our recognition and appreciation as they continue to provide dignity, compassion and security to those whose care has been entrusted to them.
