H.O.P.E.S. Program Earns Iowa Family Support Credentialing

Friday, 31 December 2010

The Iowa Family Support Credential is awarded to family support and parent education programs that have been proven to uphold the Iowa Family Support Standards. Sara Skinner, HOPES Coordinator, said, “The Iowa Family Support Credential gives Carroll County H.O.P.E.S the distinction of being an effective, quality program that is successfully improving the lives of families. It confirms that we strive to provide the best service possible to the families we are honored to work with.”

To secure the credentialing, the Carroll County H.O.P.E.S. program, which is located on the campus of St. Anthony Regional Hospital, underwent an extensive assessment from state inspectors. Having the program credentialed confirms that the program is providing high quality services that result in positive outcomes for children and their families. The H.O.P.E.S. staff worked to meet all of the 101 required standards over the course of more than a year. A Peer Review, conducted by trained colleagues, from central and southeast Iowa, validated that the program adhered to the required standards.

The H.O.P.E.S. program provides family support and parent education, at no cost, to over 150 children each year in Carroll County. H.O.P.E.S. gives families parenting tools and support that is delivered through home visits to pregnant women, parents, newborns, and families with children up to five years of age. Each family is offered primary prevention services that address family issues such as health and development, school readiness, socialization, parent-child interaction, parenting and family skills. By working closely with families, the H.O.P.E.S. staff can provide prenatal education, help with finding a family medical provider, offer education classes, and help with referrals for various community services. The program receives funding from the Partnerships 4 Families Early Childhood Iowa Area Board.

The certification will be awarded on Monday, January 10, 2011, 2:00 p.m., in the St. Anthony Regional Hospital Atrium.
