The St. Anthony Foundation

Message from Jedd Hagen, MD, Chairperson, St. Anthony Foundation  . . .

Dear Donors, Supporters and Friends,

For more than 100 years, the people of Carroll and the surrounding communities in west central Iowa, have depended on St. Anthony Regional Hospital when they’ve needed healthcare services for themselves or their family.

When Fr. Joseph Kuemper and the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration founded St. Anthony in 1905, they dedicated the hospital to their mission of providing compassionate care to the sick and poor.  St. Anthony’s commitment to healing, caring, compassion and education has continued and grown throughout the years.

Our facilities have changed and modernized over the years, resulting in enhanced patient care.  Recent improvements include, a new OB birthing unit, new Alzheimer’s unit, remodeled nursing home, new Medical/Surgical patient care unit, new Critical Care Unit, and the addition of dialysis and cancer care.

Looking forward, we are planning a new Surgery Center that will provide a modern outpatient and inpatient surgery environment with state-of-the-art technology and equipment.  Our patients will benefit from improved service, efficiency and convenience when they come to St. Anthony for their surgical needs.

The St. Anthony Foundation has a vital role in helping to fund many of these important projects.  Our donors can be assured that their financial gifts are making a significant, positive difference for individuals and families living in west central Iowa.

I invite you to consider joining with us by making a tax-deductible donation designated toward the program of your choice.  You may make a gift in memory of a friend or loved one, if you choose.  (Click here for a donation form that you can return to St. Anthony by mail.)

Your support of St. Anthony is sincerely appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jedd Hagen, MD, Chairperson                                               Gary P. Riedmann, President

Ways to Give/Types of Gifts

Cash-

Gifts of cash are very easy to make. Such gifts, regardless of size, allow St. Anthony to immediately fulfill the goals and responsibilities of providing for today's priorities.

Appreciated Property-

Stocks, bonds, mutual funds and real estate are welcome gifts. In most cases, a significant tax benefit can be realized by making a charitable gift of an appreciated asset. Some gifts may be designed to provide a lifetime income to the donor.

Planned Gifts-

Wills and Bequests-
You can make a gift through your will in one of several ways, including:

  • A percentage of your estate
  • A fixed dollar amount
  • Specific property such as stocks, bonds, retirement funds
  • The remainder of your estate after expenses, debts, and specific bequests have been paid

Charitable Gift Annuities-
You can establish a charitable gift annuity and receive a yearly annuity payment for the rest of your life, as well as receive   immediate tax advantages. The annuity rate is determined by your age and can be for one or two lives. A charitable gift      annuity is a simple contract and can be completed in our office. (Click Here to contact the St. Anthony Foundation for more information on charitable gift annuities.) Feel free to take the gift annuity quiz and test your knowledge. (Click Here to take the quiz.)

Charitable Trusts-
You can establish a charitable trust that will provide income to yourself or a loved one and, upon death, make a charitable donation to St. Anthony. Your attorney can help you decide which type of trust is best for you.

Retirement Plan Assets-
You can name St. Anthony as a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets. This may free up other assets to leave to your family members that do not have as many tax consequences.

Life Insurance-
You can name St. Anthony as policy owner or beneficiary of your current fully paid insurance policy. Or, you can establish a new policy, naming St. Anthony as your beneficiary.

Planned Giving Your Questions Answered

Why Plan?

Some people see estate planning as a complicated puzzle with many unmanageable pieces, so they put off making so they put off making important plans for the distribution of their assets. Estate planning does take special thought and consideration, but the end result is a plan that meets the financial needs of both you and your beneficiaries.

Who Should Plan?

Perhaps you feel that estate planning is only for the very rich. Estate planning is for everyone! If you have possessions, you have an estate. If you have children, you need to carefully and thoughtfully arrange for their care.

How Do I Start?

First, consider your objectives. What is important to you? Are there family members or loved ones that are dependent on you? If you have children or grandchildren, what are their special needs? Do you have a business? What will happen to it when you're no longer around?

Are there worthy charitable organizations like St. Anthony Regional Hospital who's future can be influenced through charitable gifts? Your benevolent concern and foresight can secure the future for people and organizations that are important to you.

Who Can Help Me?

The paradox of estate planning is that no one can do it for you. Only you can initiate the planning process and bring it to a conclusion. How effective a plan can be depends upon your willingness to use all the expert assistance that your situation requires.

Your attorney and/or financial advisor can point you in the right direction. Don't be like one of the seven out of ten people who do not have a valid Will. Don't procrastinate - begin now.
