The St. Anthony Foundation awarded two scholarships to individuals who are pursuing healthcare education. Shannon Hinners, who was awarded the $1,000 Elizabeth Riedmann Healthcare scholarship, is a Carroll High School graduate, and is studying nursing at Des Moines Area Community College in Carroll. Shannon, is employed at St. Anthony Nursing Home and ST. Anthony Medical/Surgical Department. Cara Bachman, recipient of the $500 Margaret Seidl Healthcare Scholarship, is a Kuemper graduate and has worked as relief staff at St. Anthony. Cara is in her junior year at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, having just completed a three week cross cultural nursing exchange in Mexico. She plans to continue in international nursing after receiving her BSN degree in 2008. The families of the Elizabeth Riedmann and Margaret Seidl established the healthcare scholarships through the St. Anthony Foundation. The Riedmann scholarship is presented each year to an applicant who is pursuing a career in a healthcare field; the Seidl scholarship is presented annually to a student enrolled in a nursing program. Both scholarships were established to encourage the development of healthcare professionals. “This year we had an exceptional field of applicants and we were extremely pleased to have two members of the St. Anthony family receive the awards. Shannon and Cara have established exceptional track records which are evident both at work and in their studies,” said Trish Roberts, Development Director at St. Anthony.
