For Immediate Release NEWS RELEASE Babies, Babies, Babies . . . Four Hundred thirty is the impressive new number at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, in Carroll. That is the number of babies delivered in 2006, up 51% from the 285 births in 2001 when the newly remodeled Birth Place replaced the original 1971 obstetrics unit at St. Anthony. “A Loving Start for Every Baby and Loving Care for Every Mom’ is what we provide by giving families the greatest nurturing opportunities possible during their stay at St. Anthony,” said Pat Hogan, Director of The Birth Place. “The increase in deliveries is a result of the excellent care given to new families by the physicians and nursing staff, along with the comfortable, home-like environment planned for The Birth Place,” Hogan added. Also adding to the increase in births is the fact that many hospitals in surrounding communities no longer offer obstetrical services, a trend that will likely continue as increased costs make it difficult for organizations and physicians to provide OB services in their communities. This comes at a time when St. Anthony has focused on providing family-friendly facilities and offers an OB/GYN physician, family practice physicians and surgeons who all deliver babies at The Birth Place. These events have allowed The Birth Place and St. Anthony to see a continued growth of deliveries. The Birth Place staff and hospital architects planned for our new 7,400 square foot expansion carefully to accommodate projected growth trends for The Birth Place. This planning process resulted in an addition of three labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum (LDRP) rooms for deliveries, bringing the total to ten rooms at The Birth Place. Also included is an area for family education and a place for birthing and breastfeeding support group meetings. The expansion also accommodates the support services integrated into the care of all patients on third floor at St. Anthony, including patient services, social services, quality assurance, utilization review, infection control and employee health. These support services will be relocating to the new area in an effort to enhance patient care by being more accessible to patients, families, nursing and medical staff. Architects for the expansion were Horty Elving and Associates, construction manager was Graham Construction and general contractor for the project was Warnke Construction. |
