For Immediate Release NEWS RELEASE New Technology Enhances Sinus Surgery at St. Anthony St. Anthony Regional Hospital recently acquired state-of-the-art technology, BrainLab Kolibri ENT, to aid Dr. Tracey Wellendorf in the process of performing sinus surgery. This image-guided system involves a three-dimensional computerized image, and combines computed tomography (CT) scans and real-time information regarding the exact position of surgical instruments using infrared signals. This technology provides the critical element of depth perception, and allows the surgeon to navigate through complex sinus passages with an added margin of precision and safety. This state-of-the-art technology uses some of the same stealth principles used during the Gulf War by the military. Dr. Thomas Dulaney, from Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons, has been using similar technology acquired by St. Anthony during the past year to enhance precision and safety for total knee replacement surgery. |
